About

I have been working as a freelance designer, under the name ‘Dark Flare Design’, since 2007. I work with businesses, individuals, and other design agencies to produce usable standards compliant websites, and simple effective logo and print design work.

I believe that the best designs are the ones that are simple and easy to use.

I also have a keen interest in photography, and use my own images as a basis to create digital art prints.

If you are interested in hiring my services in any capacity, then I'd love to hear from you.

Background

My interest in design was sparked while I was still at school, due mainly to my success in Graphic Communication (or techie drawing depending on what you want to call it).

I was the only pupil to take on the new Advanced Higher in Graphic Communication at Belmont Academy back in 2000/2001. During this time I had the opportunity to develop a mock magazine design and also work on numerous 3D Modelling projects.

That year I achieved an A grade, and also ‘The Crafts Award 2001’ from The Ayr Guildry after being nominated by the school.

I went on to take a place in a newly formed course at Glasgow Caledonian University in September 2001, achieving a University Diploma in Multimedia Visualisation (with Product Design) which allowed me to progress into the BSc (Hons) Multimedia Technology, from which I graduated in 2005.

After a short move to London, and some work experience with a great company called ‘Phoenix London’ I returned to Ayr and began working as a freelancer.
